The Bayswater fire brigade regularly supports local schools and community groups by undertaking brigade visits or attending special events.

Should you have an event you would like the brigade to attend, please download and complete the Brigade Visit Request Form, then email it to or fax to 9729 4305, attention: Community Engagement Team Leader.

Please keep in mind that the Brigade is fully volunteered and we cannot always guarantee that our members will be able to attend your event.

Fire Danger Ratings – an explanation

Victoria has adopted the new nationally agreed Fire Danger Rating (FDR) scale to help communities understand information about fire danger. This new scale recognises the significant increase in severe bushfire conditions over the past decade and the subsequent greater level of danger to the community, as experienced on Saturday 7 February 2009.

Role of Local Government

As documented in the Emergency Management Act 1986 and the Local Government Act 1989, councils play a critical role in Victoria’s emergency management systems.

Councils have emergency management responsibilities because they are the closest level of government to their communities and have access to specialised local knowledge about the environmental and demographic features of their districts. People also naturally seek help from their local council and emergency management.

Bayswater Fire Brigade's response district covers both the Knox City Council and Maroondah City Council.
